#ChromaLab was founded by Pat Sandra and his wife Martina with the aim of providing chromatographic services to the industry.

Instrumentation was two Carlo Erba 4160 GCs (one hyphenated to a Finnigan 1015 MS – Figure 1) and one Shimadzu LC-UV. Applications were mainly industrial (e.g. wastewater control and quality of animal food supplements). As consultant of Carlo Erba Strumentazione (now Thermo) basic research in capillary gas chromatography was carried out and ChromaLab, Carlo Erba and the Technical University of Eindhoven organized the 5th International Symposium on Capillary Gas Chromatography in Riva del Garda with Pat as chairman. This organization of this meeting continued until 2012 (Figure 2 and 3).
